The Supreme Court has ruled that the government cannot trigger article 50 without an act of parliament. The court has also ruled that the government of the UK does not have to consult the devolved governments of Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland either prior to triggering article 50 or as part of the negotiation process.
This was the likely outcome of the proceedings before the Supreme Court and we will now be able to see what reaction the government receives in parliament to any legislation they attempt to introduce.
